What’s the Deal with Llama Torrent?

Hey guys,

I recently came across something called “Llama Torrent” and I’m totally baffled. Is it a meme, a game, or something else entirely? Can someone fill me in on what it’s all about and why it’s getting so much buzz?

LLaMA Torrent describes the unapproved use of peer to peer file sharing networks, such as torrents, for the unapproved distribution of Meta’s LLaMA Large Language Model Meta AI models. The advanced language models in the LLaMA series were created by Meta and are available to the research community under rigorous non-commercial licensing. The size of the LLaMA models varies from 7 billion to 65 billion parameters, and their calculation demands are high.

I came across “Llama Torrent” recently too, and it definitely piqued my curiosity. It turns out, it’s not a meme or a game but rather a playful twist on the concept of “torrenting,” often associated with file sharing. It’s become a bit of an inside joke or viral topic online, with people using the name humorously in various contexts. The buzz comes from the quirky and unexpected nature of the term rather than any serious application. It’s one of those things that’s popular just because it’s fun and weird, sparking a lot of online chatter.

Original torrent is being poisoned by an uncooperative peer attack. Saturates your connection without making progress. Someone is fighting this leak hard.

Of course, there are other magnet links around now that seem to be valid.

Mine are basically pasture pets, although we do take them for walks through the woods and such. Some people use them as guards for smaller animals like lambs or goats. Their bigger size serves to dissuade small to medium-sized predators from attempting to steal youngsters or lambs.
