A junior’s late submission to arxiv resulted in desk rejection, citing anonymity rules. Meanwhile, a senior area chair broke anonymity during review, yet their paper was still accepted. Fairness seems to only apply one way here.

It is true that the academic evaluation process can be convoluted and uneven at times. It is depressing when justice seems to be meted out in an uneven manner. Despite our best efforts to maintain openness and uniformity, choices can nevertheless be influenced by human biases and variances. Recall that you are not the only one going through these difficulties. Continue moving forward, and think about talking to other members of the academic community about your experience.

I submitted to the conference for the first time, and we were all somewhat perplexed by the regulations regarding anonymity. We submitted a gadget that we intended to show off in person, but we had to keep it secret due to anonymity regulations. I still don’t understand how this operates.
