Pinecone is currently grappling with a surge in signups, which has overwhelmed their capacity to accommodate new indexes (as of April 14, 2023, according to https://status.pinecone.io/). Can anyone suggest alternative vector databases worth considering?
Try Chroma I use it for advanced indexing and accurate similarity searches. It’s an open source vector database that supports various programming languages and is scalable, easily backed up, and secure.
I can recommend some alternatives to Pinecone, @Sean. Consider trying Milvus, an Open-Source Vector Similarity Search Engine known for its collaborative and customizable open-source nature.
Its functionality is restricted compared to well-established platforms- HNSW (Hierarchical Navigable Small World graphs)
Pinecone’s API occasionally crashes and it has horrible latency. Qdrant is the best.
I utilize a Weaviate instance hosted on DigitalOcean. It’s more cost-effective compared to using the official cloud services offering, and it meets my needs adequately (although I’m only handling light loads at the moment, so I can’t speak to its scalability).
I’m interested in understanding your perspective on Pinecone’s limitations. As I’m evaluating different vector databases, your insights would be valuable to me.
My coworker utilises a Weaviate instance hosted on DigitalOcean. It’s less expensive than using the official cloud services offering and works just as well for him.
Howdy Sean! There’s been many vector databases popping up but I think it’s worth also considering KDB.AI . It’s built on 30 year old vectorized.
